About me

I am Kevin Fogarty. 

I enjoy doing maths tuition as I get to see my students enjoying maths with me and hearing about their successes in the classroom and their improved test results.

I have a first class degree in Physics; a Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering; QTS in teaching; and a PGCE in Secondary Maths Teaching. Even with these qualifications, I still make silly mistakes.

A pupil who had a strong negative experience with maths had a few maths lessons with me and their maths exam results went from 16% to 52%. 

I would like to think that I possess a unique ability to understand and communicate with a maths student, often working with them to address behavioral issues or build trust. This involves keen observation of body language, and building a relationship based on trust and respect.

Every student is different so tutoring is customised to meet their needs by:

• Making it enjoyable so that they succeed

• Giving them a safe space to make mistakes and to ask questions 

• Moving at their pace 

• Listening to what they are saying

• Observing how they answer questions

• Asking questions to understand their thinking 

• Challenging them by working at a higher level than their current working level
