I can tutor International GCSE maths as well as standard GCSE maths.
International GCSE maths is offered by private schools only.
I charge £35 per hour
No contract is required. Completely hassle free. There is no minimum amount of lessons. All that I request is that you politely let me know if you will not be having a lesson.
Life gets in the way and these unexpected events cannot be planned for. All that I ask is that you politely let me know before the lesson that you are unavailable. There is no charge.
If there are more than a few last minute cancellations over a short period or I am not informed, then I reserve the right to cancel the tuition or charge for the cancelled lesson.
I do tuition in my home with the student.
On occasion, I can do tuition at a student's home, however, this is the exception.
For the first lesson this is 1.5 hours as the first 30 minutes is talking to the parent and the student to get to know each other and an opportunity to ask questions. The rest of the lesson is done with the student by starting the assessment.
Each student is expected to bring a note book, pencil/pen and a calculator to each lesson.
For secondary key stage 3 (years 7 to 9) and for GCSE, I have a set of text books that I use and the student will need to have a personal copy for the lesson and for homework. The text books are graded by ability so I can recommend the level once I have assessed the student
For any new student, I will always start with an assessment starting with the basics to identify any gaps or misunderstandings. This provides a two way opportunity for the student and I to get to know each other.
If a student is confident in a topic, I move on to the next topic.
I will work at a level higher than the student's current school level to push them to the next level.
I will give homework at the end of each lesson on the topics covered.
If it is identified that they are weak in a certain area, such as negative numbers, then I will set additional homework.
The rate of learning varies for every student and depends on the topic being covered. When a student is confident in a topic, then I will skip it to focus on new topics or a topic that they can be doing at school and struggling with. Sometimes the learning is fast or sometimes it can be slow.
When a student is struggling with a topic, I start at the beginning and work slowly at the student's pace adding layer upon layer. I will even drop down to a lower ability book to ensure that the student is understanding what they are being taught.
Covering the KS3 Algebra can take a couple of months to get through all of the topics. Algebra is great for consolidation and picking up on areas of weakness, particularly negative numbers. Because there is so much practice, the student at the end of Algebra will be confident.
I am DBS checked and I can provide a link to my DBS certificate.
